Rabbi Asher Brander in his introduction to this set of commentaries on the Weekly Parsha says he wishes through them to reveal the 'song of Torah'. He writes that a song should bring Simcha, that it should have 'uplifting and thoughtful lyrics' that it should 'blend discordant notes to create a beautiful music'. He illustrates his meaning by giving several answers to the question of 'Why did Yaakov not bury Rachel in Machpela?' He then speaks about a concept of 'shakla v'tarya' the give and take of learning that is also part o the song of Torah. And then illustrates his meaning by considering the question of the 'crying of Yosef' in Bereishit. he then refers to a third characteristic of his method, and says a song should linger 'in our lips and in our minds'. Torah learning he insists must lead to Torah living. In the main body of the work Rabbi Brander raises one central question for each Parsha. He then provides a clear and well- written commentary. This should not be the only work one uses in studying the Parsha, but is a welcome addition and can provide additional insights to the long list of commentaries we already have. --Shalom Freedman
